"Prelude to A National Championship"
Top 10 Texas Longhorn games since 1995
Number 3:
#2 Texas 25, #4 Ohio State 22
September 10, 2005 (Columbus, Ohio)
This is the game that has brought us to where we are today as a Longhorn nation, on the brink of a National Championship. It was a classic duel between two great teams and storied programs with Texas hanging on defensively through the first 3 ½ quarters. Vince Young threw a 24-yard go-ahead touchdown to Limas Sweed with 2:37 left and the defense stopped Ohio State to secure the 25-22 victory. On a personal level this game was especially sweet as my roommate Howard is a huge Ohio State game and we had literally been discussing this game for 4 years. This victory not only paved the way for Texas’ Rose Bowl run, it also gave me bragging rights—at least for a year until they meet again in Austin.
